Tan Gang, a distinguished Qiushi Chair Professor at the College of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Zhejiang University, is the director of Smart Materials for Architecture Research Lab, Innovation Center of Yangtze River Delta, Zhejiang University. He graduated from the Thermal Engineering Department of Tsinghua University, and received his Ph.D. in building technology from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2005. Prior to joining the School of Architecture and Engineering of Zhejiang University in 2022, he worked at the University of Wyoming in the United States and was awarded a tenured professor position. His research interests include new building materials, new technologies for energy conservation and emission reduction, renewable energy and utilization, and building environment control. His research work has been supported by the National Scientific Research Fund, ministries, local governments and regional research institutions, and he has presided over or participated in more than 10 basic research projects. He has published about 100 research papers in prestigious research journals, including Science (3 papers), Joule, Nature Communications, ACS Energy Letters, etc. Professor Tan Gang and his team have made pioneering work on energy saving and carbon reduction related technologies based on new materials and devices, such as zero-energy radiation cooling materials (2017) and multi-wavelength independent dynamic regulation of building window films (2021). He has obtained more than 40 patents at home and abroad, and is also associate editor of the international journal “Building Simulation”.
