Biography

Liu Yunzhong is a Ph.D. in Economics from Peking University who has conducted visiting research at the London School of Economics, Hitotsubashi University in Japan, and Yale University in the USA. His research focuses primarily on urban and regional economics, and economic growth. Liu has been involved in the early-stage research of China's 11th to 14th Five-Year Plans, conducted by the Development Research Center of the State Council. He has published numerous articles in journals like Economic Research Journal, Management World, China Soft Science, and Public Finance Research as well as in newspapers like People's Daily and The Economic Daily. Liu has led research projects for the Development Research Center of the State Council, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the National Social Science Fund of China, and has received multiple Sun Yefang Economic Science Awards and China Development Research Awards.

Awards

1. Co-authored High Walls or Traps(CITIC Publishing House), awarded the 2012 (15th) Sun Yefang Economic Science Prize (contributed Chapter 5).

2. Co-authored Urbanization of Migrant Workers (China Development Publishing House), received the 2012 (15th) Sun Yefang Economic Science Prize (contributed Chapter 7).

3. Led China's Modern Strategic Choices research project, won the First Prize in China Development Research (2023).

4. Led China's Urbanization Development Strategy research project, received the Special Prize in China Development Research (2015).

5. Led How Can China Overcome the Middle-Income Trap? research project, awarded the Special Prize in China Development Research (2013).

6. Led Quantitative Analysis and Prediction of the Role of Foreign Trade in Economic and Social Development research, won the First Prize in National Commerce Development Research by the Ministry of Commerce (2010).

7. LedPreliminary Research for the 11th Five-Year Plan project, awarded the Special Prize in China Development Research (2005).
