Biography

Currently, Prof. Chenis serving as PI of Genomic Medicine Laboratory in Innovation Center of Yangtze River Delta, Zhejiang University. He started scientific career in The University of Tokyo, under supervision of Prof. Kazunori Kataoka (US National Academician of Engineering), working on manufacture of intelligent nanocapsules capable of overcoming a string of biological barriers that hinder delivery of therapeutic gene into the targeted cell interiors. Furthermore, he moved to Massachusetts Institute of Technology as postdoctoral associate in Jeremiah A. Johnson Laboratory to pursue development and translation of novel chemistry (particularly ring-opening metathesis polymerization) into biomedical applications. He started independent research in Dalian University of Technology in 2017. To date, he have published over 100 scientific papers, and approximately 50 with first or corresponding authorship. Meanwhile, several successful industrial and clinical translations that I have accomplished include 1) targeted platinum nanomedicine (NanoplatinTM, NC-6004) Clinical IIIb in treatment late-stage pancreatic carcinoma; 2) Nucleic acids therapeutics in pre-clinical trials.

His current research interest is emphasized on: 1) Engineering gene delivery systems: rationale in design of molecular structures for precisely condensation of nucleic acids into targeted conformation in pursuit of an appreciable extracellular and intracellular gene delivery scheme to acquire outcomes; 2) Construction of drug delivery vehicles to circumvent the pyramid of blood brain barrier:targeted transportation of biological active compounds to the neurons for treatment of Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer diseases; 3) Development of targeted-delivery theranostic nanoparticulates for cancer therapeutics:precise control of molecular structures and ensuing formulated drug delivery nanostructures with ensemble of multiple functionalities.
